VLASSKÁ BAROQUE VILLA RENOVATION | PRAGUE 1, CZECH REPUBLIC

As this privately-owned, protected, baroque villa in the historic center of Prague is situated in the shade of the Petriny park, the aim of this reconstruction was to harvest as much sunlight inside the house as possible. The villa had undergone a prior reconstruction under the Communist government, when it was divided into 10 small apartments. This new reconstruction removed some of the walls and floors that had been created to this effect, exposing the original, typical baroque cross-formation of the ground floor plan. The innovative aspect of the design was that it further modified the original cross-formation in order to open up space across the three floors, which allowed for evening sunlight to reach into parts of the villa where it could not reach before.
